The artistic project Homescape combines landscape photographs with fabric photographs made from discarded textiles to highlight the problems of the clothing industry. The clean air and environment of Western societies are made possible by landfills and production plants far from Western Europe. Still, the Earth is often not so separate, and environmental issues such as global warming and the microplastic problem are unavoidable even in Western regions. Therefore, this project combines fabric waste in acrylic frames overlaid with landscape photographs of Vienna to create a photo that evokes an ironic reflection on the concept of European landscapes and the ideal of a pristine environment.
The project raises the question of the inequities of the textile production, consumption, and disposal processes. It also addresses themes such as women’s labor, environmental issues, racism, and power dynamics between nations, inviting viewers to explore these issues from a new perspective.

This project was supported by the Cultural Department of Vienna (MA7), Austria.
