The artistic project Homescape combines landscape photographs with fabric images made from discarded textiles to highlight issues within the clothing industry. The clean air and environment of Western societies are sustained by landfills and production sites located far beyond Western Europe. Yet the Earth is not so easily divided, and environmental issues such as global warming and microplastic pollution remain unavoidable, even in Western regions.
For this reason, the project overlays textile waste within acrylic frames onto landscape photographs of Vienna, creating images that offer an ironic reflection on European landscapes and the ideal of a pristine environment. The project raises questions about inequities within textile production, consumption, and disposal processes. It also addresses themes of women’s labor, environmental degradation, racism, and global power dynamics, inviting viewers to reconsider these interconnected issues from a new perspective.

This project was supported by the Cultural Department of Vienna (MA7), Austria.
